Personal Survival Techniques 

This course aims to provide the training for candidates in sea survival in accordance with Section A-VI/1 of the STCW code.
This course is open to all seafarers and prospective seafarers and is often required to be completed prior to employment on a sea-going ship.

On meeting the standards of this programme, a trainee will be able to survive at sea in the event of ship abandonment.

Programme Content

Topic 1:  Life Saving and Safety Equipment
Topic 2:  Survival Techniques
Topic 3:  Emergency Accidents and Incidents
Topic 4:  International Distress Signals
Topic 5:  Drills and Hazard Management

Qualification gained

On successful completion of this course and demonstration of competence you will be issued with a certificate certifying you have met the standards required in Table A-VI/1 of STCW 95.

Please note that course completion certificates will not be issued until we receive the following,
  • Valid Maritime NZ id
  • Passport image
  • Payment of program fees

Additional Information

Please bring an extra change of clothes (to be worn in the swimming pool) and towel for the practical session.  Note, all required safety gear will be supplied.

Entry requirements

All trainees will complete a medical questionnaire, and live training depends on no issues being identified.

Please supply the following,
  • A passport image
  • Valid ID as per Maritime NZ requirements
