Specified Activity Endorsement

If you hold a Skipper Restricted Limits (SRL) or a ring-fenced certificate, a specified activity endorsement may be granted.
With this endorsement, you can operate beyond restricted limits up to 100 nautical miles (NM) from the coast, for the purpose of conducting a specified activity.

Programme Content

Topic 1:  Passage planning
Topic 2:  Coastal and offshore meteorology
Topic 3:  Preparation for coastal and offshore voyages
Topic 4:  Crew organisation
Topic 5:  Heavy weather precautions
Topic 6:  Maintenance of vessel stability

Qualification gained

On successful programme completion the following will be gained.

  • Specified activity endorsement
  • Unit Standard 12310 or equivalent
  • Unit Standard 12309 or equivalent
  • STCW Elementary First Aid
  • Marine General Radio Operators Certificate

Additional information

To get this endorsement, you need to prove that you meet all the requirements.
In summary, you need to:
  • gain extra knowledge competencies
  • hold a current Skipper Restricted Limits (SRL) certificate or a valid ring-fenced certificate
  • hold a current Maritime General Radiotelephone Operator (MGROC) certificate
  • have the required ancillary certificates
  • pass MNZ’s final oral exam.

Hold a current Skipper Restricted Limits (SRL) Certificate or valid ring-fenced certificate

English language requirements
All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to undertake this programme, which is taught and assessed in English.

Other requirements
Entry to this qualification is open but completion does not guarantee the award of a Maritime New Zealand license. All persons wishing to qualify for a seafarer license must also check the Maritime New Zealand prior certification and minimum service requirements for that license.

Unit Standard 12310 or equivalent
Unit Standard 12309 or equivalent
STCW Elementary First Aid

If you already hold any of these short courses, you do not need to do them again – we will credit them towards your programme.
