Seafood Processing

This programme is aimed at those who have already completed the NZ Certificate in Primary Industries (Seafood Processing) (Level 2) or who wish to directly enter the Level 3 programme as a standalone qualification; and who are already working in the seafood processing sector either on a fishing vessel or land based operation.

Graduates of the programme will be able to work as seafood processing operators carrying out routine operations in seafood processing. working under limited supervision with responsibility for their own work outcomes.

Programme Information

US 28650:  Work in a team to achieve designated tasks in a primary industry operation
US 28931:  Interact with internal customers in a primary industry operations
US 28630:  Apply hygiene and food safety practices to own work area in a food processing operation
US 31493:  Demonstrate knowledge of handling practices and produce seafood product fit for its intended purpose
US 5316:  Demonstrate knowledge of the effects and control of seafood spoilage, and the shelf life of seafood product
US 16712:  Demonstrate knowledge of seafood naming systems, and identify New Zealand seafood species
US 25944:  Demonstrate knowledge of, and carry out, seafood product quality checks in a seafood operation
US 25945:  Demonstrate knowledge of, and maintain a, safe work area while working with seafood products
US 25948:  Demonstrate knowledge of packing, and pack, seafood product
US 31496:  Demonstrate knowledge of cleaning and sanitation, and clean and sanitise a seafood operation work area

NZ3130 NZ Certificate in Seafood Processing (Level 3)

Additional information

This qualification is aimed at continuing the career pathway from Level 2 seafood processing and is offer as a blend of time in Westport or fully online as required.

Entry requirements

There are no minimum academic requirements for entry.

It is recommended that applicants be currently employed within a commercial fishing operation and/or have ongoing access to fishing vessels to enable the guided learning and practical evidence verification whilst at sea.
