Marine Engineering Class 5

The Marine Engineering Class 5 (MEC 5) course is designed for those aiming to advance their careers in marine engineering and take on more responsibilities aboard vessels.

The MEC 5 course builds on the foundation established in MEC 6, providing more in-depth knowledge and skills required for operating and maintaining marine machinery and systems. It’s typically aimed at those who have already gained experience as a Marine Engineer Class 6.

Topic 3:  Operating and Monitoring Vessel’s Engines and Machinery
Topic 4:  Maintaining Vessel’s Engines and Machinery
Topic 5:  Environment Protection
Topic 6:  Marine Engineering Working Practices and Emergency Response

  • NZ4321 New Zealand Certificate in Marine Engineering Class 5 (Level 5)

  • STCW Personal Safety Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
  • STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
  • STCW Elementary First Aid

Additional information

The WDSFS MEC must be completed before the issuance of a course certificate.

Entry requirements

Students must have a completed MEC6 MNZ Training Record Book. If their completed MEC6 workbook is more than one year old, then they will need to complete another MEC6 workbook which can be completed concurrently with this qualification.

Academic requirements
There are no minimum academic requirements for entry.
